Biography: In 1899 - 1909 he studied at the Stroganov School, at the MUZHVZ with A.E. Arkhipov and K. A. Korovin, then in Paris at the Academy of R. Julien and in the workshop of E. Carriere. Participated in the exhibitions "World of Art", "Donkey's tail", "Union of Youth", "Makovets", "Society of Moscow Artists", "Target" and "y 4". In 1918-1921 he was in charge of the literary and artistic sub-department of the College for the Arts of the People's Commissariat of Education, in 1918-1929 he taught at Vkhutemas, took an active part in the work of the Russian Academy of Art Sciences and the creation of the Museum of Pictorial Culture. In the 1930s. He made a creative trip to the East: to Adjara, Dagestan, Azerbaijan.
